Good evening everyONE, 
Applications are now open for Nova Scotia Power’s 2026 Black Nova Scotian Bursary.
There are four (4) $2,500, non-renewable awards available to Black Nova Scotian students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in the areas of Power Engineering, Power Line Technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing & Communications, Environmental Sciences or Law. 
Recipients may have the opportunity to participate in a 12-week paid internship at Nova Scotia Power during their term of study. Recipients will be notified to apply for opportunities. Applicants must be Canadian citizens of African descent and permanent residents of Nova Scotia.
Priority will be given to individuals who are Black Nova Scotians, Indigenous Black, Africadian, Afri-Scotian or Scotian and who are descendants of free and enslaved Black Loyalists, Black Refugees, Maroons and other Black people who were settled across 52 indigenous (original) land-based Black communities.
Please be prepared to speak to your connection to the Black Nova Scotian community as defined above if selected for an interview.

  NEW   The Government of Nova Scotia’s Department of Education & Early Childhood Development is hiring a  Director, African Canadian Services . This opportunity is designated for candidates who are African/Black Nova Scotians and/or Racialized Persons. This permanent, full-time position has a bi-weekly salary of $4,136.98 – $5,171.21.   NEW   IWK Health is hiring a  Health Promotion and Prevention Specialist . Preference will be given to qualified candidates who self-identify as Black/African Nova Scotian or as belonging to other equity-employment groups.   NEW   One North End Economic Development Society (In partnership with the YMCA) is hiring for two positions. Both positions work with the project team to provide employment and life skills-related training and support to youth (ages 18-26) in the North End who are attached to Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA) at risk of attachment to ESIA without employment interventions.  Priority will be given to African Nova Scotians who self-identify. The closing date is successful upon hire:

  NEW   The North End Community Health Centre is hiring for the following opportunities:
1.  Communications Coordinator . Individuals who self-identify as Black/African Nova Scotian and/or belong to other employment equity groups are encouraged to apply.   Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is hiring a           Planner II – Regional and Community Planning . Programs, Events, Grants & Additional Opportunities:

  NEW   Join PREP Academy for “ Show Me the Money !”, a virtual workshop created to help students discover scholarship opportunities, craft standout applications, and approach the process with confidence. During this interactive session, participants will gain practical guidance on where to search for scholarships, how to avoid common application mistakes, and what reviewers are really looking for in strong candidates.

  NEW   RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is inviting Black youth across Canada to be creators in their first-ever  Canada-wide Storytelling Contest , in collaboration with their RiseUp partner network 1834 Foundation and Hip Hop Healing. Using #RiseUpforBlackMentalHealth and guided prompts, they’re calling on Black youth to share their stories through videos, photos, artwork, writing, and poetry. This is a space to celebrate Black identity, heritage, ancestry, joy, culture, music, food, community, stepping into a new phase, or a day in the life of a Black youth.   NEW   Know someone who might want to be part of Team Nova Scotia at the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Québec City? Team Nova Scotia is currently recruiting Mission Staff Volunteers, the people who support athletes, coaches, and families before and during the Games. This is a great opportunity for African Nova Scotian community members, especially youth or young adults, who are curious about careers in sport, recreation, event planning, or leadership. Mission Staff are assigned to a specific sport and act as the main liaison between the Canada Games team and the athletes, coaches, and parents in that sport. They play a huge role in helping things run smoothly behind the scenes and in making athletes feel supported and seen. Representation matters, and this is a tangible way to ensure African Nova Scotian athletes see themselves reflected, not just on the field, but in the people supporting them too.   NEW    Join Tribe Network for a free virtual workshop,  AI for Content Creation & Marketing Mastery , designed to help non-technical founders build smarter, create faster, and work on their business and not just in it. You’ll learn how to build prototypes using no-code + AI tools, how to make smart build vs. buy decisions, how to create authentic, consistent marketing content in less time, and how to lead tech and marketing workflows, even without a technical background. This is for entrepreneurs, small business owners, professionals, and students who are sitting on big ideas, and want to take action with clarity and confidence.   NEW   A  Valentine’s Day Celebration  for African Heritage Month is taking place at the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia on February 14th at 1 pm.   NEW   Through the Association of Black Social Worker’s Creating Communities of Care Program, they’re launching a  4-week Healthy Relationships Program  for youth ages 12-15. Led by two African Nova Scotian facilitators, this program will support youth in exploring: Healthy Relationships, Boundaries and Consent, Red and Green Flags, Self-love and confidence, Healthy Relationships and Social Media, and much more!   NEW   The Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute (DBDLI) has a couple upcoming opportunities: 
 1. Deadline Update: March 6, 2026. The 2026 African Nova Scotian History Challenges are live, and they have already received some incredible projects. Due to the strong interest and quality of submissions ahead of the original February 6 deadline, they are extending the deadline to allow even more students to participate. Students from Primary to Grade 12 are invited to explore the stories, achievements, and legacy of Black communities across Nova Scotia through art, research, and creativity. This annual challenge brings classrooms, families, and communities together. They are inspired by what has already been submitted and look forward to seeing even more projects. Click HERE for more information.
2.  Young, Black, and Thriving, a two-part virtual mental health and wellness series centering Black youth voices, lived experiences, and Africentric pathways to well-being. Join DBDLI for honest, affirming conversations focused on healing, resilience, and community-based support. Sessions will take place on February 17th and 24th, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, virtually on Zoom. This series creates a safe and empowering space to reduce stigma and strengthen connections to wellness resources. Together, we rise by building community and supporting Black youth well-being.   Application Deadline Extended! Great news! The application deadline for the  Black Student Recruitment Initiative with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)  has been extended to Monday, February 9, 2026! This extension gives new applicants more time to apply and offers a perfect opportunity for those with incomplete applications to log back in and finish what they started. The initiative offers paid Summer 2026 student opportunities for Black students in science and related fields across multiple regions in Canada.   Join the Black Wellness Co-operative for Strength in Heritage: Our  Black History Month Bootcamp . Take part in an inclusive workout open to all ages and abilities to come together to sweat and connect during Black History Month. This 60 minute group fitness circuit-style class with a coach at each station. Experience a well-rounded full body workout guided by your BWC coaches and friends cheering you on and hyping you up along the way! Come ready for a good time and to challenge your body and mind in a way that will leave you feeling great! This event will take place on Saturday, February 21st from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, at Pro-EDGE Elite Training facility. This is a fundraiser class and all funds will be used towards the BWC Scholarship.   The Black Cultural Centre’s 2026 African Heritage Month Gala  is taking place February 28th, 2026 from 5pm – 11:30pm at the Halifax Convention Centre. An unforgettable evening celebrating the rich culture and heritage of the Black community in Nova Scotia. Their theme “Deep Roots, Powerful Future” reflects the strength that comes from knowing where we come from. It’s a celebration of heritage, growth, and the collective resilience that empowers us to shape a brighter tomorrow. The African Heritage Gala is part of the Capital Campaign to Expand so that we can continue to educate and empower.  The PREP Academy online  Scholarship Directory  provides African Nova Scotian students access to a digital list of funding awards that can help support a student’s education. Organizations can POST awards for students to access. Click HERE to access. 

FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS
  alongside   are providing support to people of African Descent in Nova Scotia with their  Provincial Impact Toll Free Line . This includes mental health supports, social supports, education information and supports, public health COVID-19 information and supports, and much more! Call them, toll free @ 1-855-732-1253.
  African Nova Scotian and Black youth across Canada deserve mental health and well-being support informed by their rich cultures and diverse lived experiences.  RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is a national, 24/7, bilingual E-Mental Health Support Service for Black youth. The service is free and available from coast to coast to coast. Click HERE for more information.
 Nova Village NS is now offering FREE family (with youth up to the age of 19),  couple, perinatal counselling and mental health assessments — available virtually or in person. This service is provided by a registered counselling therapist. In addition, there is a monthly peer support group for new moms and a 6-week mental wellness program.

 The North End Community Health Centre offers mental health services through their PAUSE Mental Health program. They are open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays for over the phone appointments, and Wednesday’s for in-person appointments at 2131 Gottingen Street. Please call their toll free number (1-800-598-5270) at any time, and leave your name and phone number to be matched with a therapist.
