Good evening everyONE, 
The African Nova Scotian Housing Strategy (ANSHS) is hiring an Executive Lead to guide the implementation of the ANS Housing Strategy and support its evolution into a coordinated, sustainable, community-rooted organization that advances housing justice and opportunity for African Nova Scotians.
Working with staff partners and consultants the Executive Lead will work to strengthen  relationships across the province, supporting the development of clear governance, Supporting the design and implementation of key Strategy initiatives: Housing Hub, Community Bank and Incubator, Housing Development Toolkit.
This organization was developed to advance housing equity and opportunity for African Nova Scotian (ANS) communities across the province. Guided by principles of self-determination, equity, land justice, and community-led development, the Strategy envisions a Nova Scotia where African Nova Scotians have a level playing field in accessing safe, quality housing and in building generational wealth through home and land ownership.
ANSHS Prioritizes applications from African Nova Scotians committed to ensuring this role is grounded in and accountable to the African Nova Scotian community.
This full-time position requires travelling across the province and has an annual salary of $110,000 – $130,000.

Programs, Events, Grants & Additional Opportunities:

  NEW   Join Black Girls Pillow Talk for:  Leading with Care: Black Women & Community Safety . They are inviting Black women to join them on January 16th from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Zatzman Sportsplex where they will engage in an honest conversation and shared learning from their peers working in justice, crime prevention, and community safety. The conversation will be led by Angelina Simmonds, Founder of Black Girls Pillow Talk, and will feature a panel including: Mukisa Kakembo, Lawyer & FemEntity Founder, Angela Simmonds, Lawyer & A Team Coaching Founder, former politician, and Melodie Skeete, MSW RSW, Clinical Therapist, MTS Counseling Services. The event will be capped at 30 participants to ensure an intimate setting for open, honest conversation and meaningful connection. This event is FREE!   NEW   The 2026 Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute  African Nova Scotian History Challenges  are now live! They welcome all students from grade primary to 12 explore the achievements and stories of Black communities in our province. The initiative brings classrooms, families, and communities together every year as hundreds of students create projects through art, research, and creativity. Awards totaling $3,000, medals, and prizes will be presented to winning recipients at an awards ceremony in the spring. Deadline February 6th. This is your one-stop sign-up for performances and showcases throughout the year. Sign up once to be considered for ANSMA performances and showcases all year long. If you’re a solo artist, band, DJ, or musician, they want to hear from you. By completing the form, you’re registering your interest in opportunities such as: ANSMA shows and community performances; Concert series, festivals, and special events; Music showcases and cultural celebrations.   The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth has opened a new initiative:  Anchor Youth Space – North End Halifax . Anchor is a welcoming, low-barrier space designed to support the health and wellbeing of youth and their caregivers (aged 12-25) in the North End of Halifax. No appointments needed. No fees. Just a space built for you that is open evenings and weekends. Their mission is to empower youth and caregivers through accessible, responsive, and holistic support. Through collaboration with local organizations and government partners, Anchor offers integrated services in: Mental health and substance use; Employment and housing support; Community and social development. Operating all under one roof, it is designed by youth, for youth. Their team and services are rooted in equity, ensuring everyone gets the support and opportunities they need.   Clean Foundation is calling all Nova Scotian artists ages 14–24! Applications are now open for the  Creative Climate Showcase ! if you have a climate-inspired idea, this is your chance to share your vision through any creative medium: visual, written, or performance. Utilize the Youth Artist Materials Grant (up to $200) for resources and support in crafting your masterpiece. The winning submission can receive $1000 Youth Artist Grant and a showcase of your work in May 2026! FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS
 The Halifax Maternal Wellness Program is a new Halifax-wide initiative that supports mothers, birthing people and families during pregnancy, the postpartum and early parenthood. It’s completely free and offers: family, couples and perinatal counselling sessions, Mom-to-Mom Support Circle, a 6-week maternal wellness program twice a year, and information resources for new parents, partners and caregivers.   African Nova Scotian and Black youth across Canada deserve mental health and well-being support informed by their rich cultures and diverse lived experiences.  RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is a national, 24/7, bilingual E-Mental Health Support Service for Black youth. The service is free and available from coast to coast to coast. Click HERE for more information.
 The North End Community Health Centre offers mental health services through their PAUSE Mental Health program. They are open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays for over the phone appointments, and Wednesday’s for in-person appointments at 2131 Gottingen Street. Please call their toll free number (1-800-598-5270) at any time, and leave your name and phone number to be matched with a therapist.
  alongside   are providing support to people of African Descent in Nova Scotia with their  Provincial Impact Toll Free Line . This includes mental health supports, social supports, education information and supports, public health COVID-19 information and supports, and much more! Call them, toll free @ 1-855-732-1253.
