Nova Scotia Power is pleased to announce that they are accepting applications for the Black Nova Scotian Bursary.
There are 4 non-renewable awards valued at $2,500 Available! If you are a Canadian citizen of African descent and permanent residents of Nova Scotia. Entering any year of full-time post secondary program. Past recipients are eligible to re-apply each year for up to four (4) years while still enrolled in a college or undergraduate university program.
Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in areas of Power Engineering, Power Line technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing and Communications, Environmental sciences, or Law.
The Recipients may also have the opportunity to participate in a paid internship at Nova Scotia Power. The deadline to apply is March 28th 2026.

NEW 1. Promoting Leadership in health for African Nova Scotians (PLANS) Prep Institute (PPI) is a post-secondary preparation program for Grade 10 -12 African Nova Scotian learners with a focus on skills development to prepare for success at university or college and ease the transition from high school. The institute will explore courses and programs available and associated careers, skills in leadership, time management, note taking, goal setting, and research and presentation skills. It will also include personal development, cultural and recreational activities. The PPI is for students completing Grades 10 – 12 in June 2026. PPI Camp Dates: July 5 – 9, 2026. Deadline April 24th. NEW 2. African Nova Scotian students from across Nova Scotia who are interested in a career in health are invited to apply for the Promoting Leadership in health for African Nova Scotians ANS Health Science Camp (HSC). The purpose of the camp is to increase interest in the health professions within the Black community. The camp will introduce youth to a variety of health professions through fun, hands-on and interactive programming. The camp will also consist of personal development, cultural and recreational activities such as African drumming, swimming and other outdoor activities. NEW 3. Join the Office of Equity and Inclusion for the sixth annual Human Rights and Equity Conference! This year’s virtual event will be held on March 27th, in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Through a keynote address and panel discussions, they will explore: How global crises such as war, displacement, and systemic violence are connected to local realities in Nova Scotia. The impact of budget cuts, institutional retrenchment, and declining support for equity and community-based initiatives. 4. The Expression of Interest for the 2026 Bridge into Agriculture Program is now open! This course blends online learning with practical experience growing a vegetable garden. It’s a fully online course (with optional in-person learning components). Explore the history of agriculture in African Nova Scotian communities, vegetable production, garden design, preparation, and much more. No experience required. This course runs April 13 until September 11, 2026. This program is open to African Nova Scotians and/or people of African descent who currently live in Nova Scotia. NEW The Community of Support MCAT Student Support Program is an 11-week (early May-late July) program that aims to assist prospective medical students with financial need who will be writing the MCAT. The program will provide a structured, interactive learning space for students to review questions and difficult concepts (pulled from outstanding educational resources), that they have studied prior to the session, and to share and help students practice effective strategies for test-taking that are vital to excel in the MCAT. Join them in this virtual workshop, created to help students discover new scholarship opportunities, craft standout applications, and approach the process with confidence. During this interactive session, participants will gain practical guidance on where to search for scholarships, how to avoid common application mistakes, and learn what reviewers are really looking for. 1.The HAAC Board is inviting community members to step forward through a call for nominations ahead of their Annual General Meeting in June 2026. This is an opportunity for those who feel ready to take a more active role in the Association’s work or who are simply curious about what Board involvement entails to express their interest. By completing the HAAC Board Member Nomination Form, individuals can begin a conversation with the Association to learn more about the responsibilities, expectations, and impact of serving on the Board. FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS
alongside are providing support to people of African Descent in Nova Scotia with their Provincial Impact Toll Free Line . This includes mental health supports, social supports, education information and supports, public health COVID-19 information and supports, and much more! Call them, toll free @ 1-855-732-1253.
African Nova Scotian and Black youth across Canada deserve mental health and well-being support informed by their rich cultures and diverse lived experiences. RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is a national, 24/7, bilingual E-Mental Health Support Service for Black youth. The service is free and available from coast to coast to coast. Nova Village NS is now offering FREE family (with youth up to the age of 19), couple, perinatal counselling and mental health assessments — available virtually or in person. This service is provided by a registered counselling therapist. In addition, there is a monthly peer support group for new moms and a 6-week mental wellness program.

The North End Community Health Centre offers mental health services through their PAUSE Mental Health program. They are open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays for over the phone appointments, and Wednesday’s for in-person appointments at 2131 Gottingen Street.
