  NEW   Black Business Initiative (BBI) is back with  Barrier Breakers Youth ! Are you an ambitious youth in Nova Scotia aged 15–30 looking to build skills, gain work experience, and kickstart your career? This unique program empowers young people by removing barriers and offering paid training plus hands-on work experience. Participants receive four weeks of paid job-readiness training followed by a 16-week paid work placement with reputable employers across Nova Scotia. This gathering celebrates the excellence of Black nurses and nursing students leading change in the Canadian healthcare system, and offers dynamic presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.   Join Futurpreneur for  Funding Futures: Building Entrepreneurial Connections , an evening dedicated to fostering entrepreneurial growth and meaningful connections. Centered on the growth of Halifax’s young entrepreneurs (ages 18-39), learn about opportunities and resources in your area. Hosted in partnership with the YWCA Flourish Fund, this event brings together local entrepreneurs, mentors, and experts in the community to share insights on funding, business growth, and building supportive networks. It is designed to help Black women entrepreneurs in rural communities harness the power of Artificial Intelligence to grow, streamline, and future-proof their businesses. Over 8 weeks, participants move from understanding AI basics to implementing AI-powered strategies in marketing, e-commerce, finance, and operations—leaving with a customized plan ready for action.    Call for Focus Group  participants: are you an African Nova Scotian that no longer lives in an African Nova Scotian Community? The study purpose is to gain a deeper understanding of what makes African Nova Scotian cultural identity unique. The study will involve talking to African Nova Scotians who no longer live in their hereditary communities to understand how they describe, explain, and stay connected to their cultural identity. This will involve a 90-min session in October or November. Participants will be compensated $50 cash for participating. Click HERE for more information.

 The PREP Academy online  Scholarship Directory  provides African Nova Scotian students access to a digital list of funding awards that can help support a student’s education. Organizations can POST awards for students to access. Click HERE to access. 

FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS
 The Halifax Maternal Wellness Program is a new Halifax-wide initiative that supports mothers, birthing people and families during pregnancy, the postpartum and early parenthood. It’s completely free and offers: family, couples and perinatal counselling sessions, Mom-to-Mom Support Circle, a 6-week maternal wellness program twice a year, and information resources for new parents, partners and caregivers.   African Nova Scotian and Black youth across Canada deserve mental health and well-being support informed by their rich cultures and diverse lived experiences.  RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is a national, 24/7, bilingual E-Mental Health Support Service for Black youth. The service is free and available from coast to coast to coast. Click HERE for more information.
 The North End Community Health Centre offers mental health services through their PAUSE Mental Health program. They are open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays for over the phone appointments, and Wednesday’s for in-person appointments at 2131 Gottingen Street. Please call their toll free number (1-800-598-5270) at any time, and leave your name and phone number to be matched with a therapist.
  alongside   are providing support to people of African Descent in Nova Scotia with their  Provincial Impact Toll Free Line . This includes mental health supports, social supports, education information and supports, public health COVID-19 information and supports, and much more! Call them, toll free @ 1-855-732-1253.
