Job Developer

The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth is hiring a Job Developer for its YMCA Nova Scotia Works program, based at Wyse Road / Main Street in Dartmouth. This is a designated position for an African Nova Scotian or person of African descent.

The YMCA provides employment support services to both job seekers and employers, including one-on-one and group services such as needs assessments, career planning and job search support. Reporting to the Manager, the Job Developer is responsible for successfully matching job seekers to employment opportunities by advocating for them and using marketing skills.

Responsibilities include researching and identifying companies, industries and growth sectors that are hiring in order to access job postings and uncover hidden job market opportunities; connecting with employers to market job seekers; providing information to employers on employer-related programs and services; pre-screening and matching job seekers to appropriate employers; making referrals for employment and disability-related supports; participating in case management; assisting employers with onboarding; and documenting client information in LaMPSS.

Qualifications include a degree or post-secondary education in a human services or related field, or a combination of education and work-related experience; access to reliable transportation; knowledge of community organizations, service providers and referral agencies; demonstrated inclusionary practice and respect for diversity; and experience in networking, rapport building, and oral and written communication.

Compensation is $45,000 to $48,000 per year. Total compensation also includes a complimentary YMCA membership to Health & Fitness facilities, access to Y at Home, three weeks’ vacation entitlement and paid wellness days, a comprehensive benefits package and pension, and complimentary wellbeing and counselling services.

Successful candidates are required to provide a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Register Check less than six months old, along with valid First Aid and CPR training.
