Dalhousie University is now accepting applications for the Director, African Nova Scotian Community Engagement, an 18-month full-time leadership role supporting the development and implementation of Dalhousie’s African Nova Scotian Strategy.

This designated opportunity is open to applicants who self-identify as African Nova Scotian, a distinct people with historic and ancestral ties to the original land-based Black communities of Nova Scotia.

This role will support African Nova Scotian students, staff, and faculty while strengthening Dalhousie’s relationships with African Nova Scotian communities and partners across the province.

The position offers a salary range of $80,471–$107,943, hybrid work flexibility within Nova Scotia, and a comprehensive benefits package. Applications are accepted until June 25, 2026.

  NEW   The Black Cultural Centre is hosting a Recognition Ceremony & Honour Parade to honour those who served in the NO. 2 Construction Battalion. The parade will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, July 4th, at the Pictou waterfront, with the ceremony to follow hosted at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.   NEW   The Black Business Initiative is coordinating two events:

1. The  Introduction to Import and Export Business session is a practical learning opportunity for small business owners interested in expanding into global markets. Led by Fatai Matti, CEO of 56pivot Group Inc. and founder of 54Africana, the workshop draws on more than 20 years of international commodities‑trading experience to help entrepreneurs understand global trade, explore new markets, and build confidence in international business.   NEW    The  Head Start Youth Employability Program is a 7‑week summer initiative supporting junior high and high school students in career planning, job readiness, and volunteer experience. Beginning July 7th, 2026, youth participate three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. & 1–3 p.m.), with optional volunteer days on Mondays and Fridays.     NSCC is offering a one‑year Disability Support Professional Certificate Program  beginning  September 2026. This program trains students to support persons with disabilities through a rights‑based, community‑focused approach, and includes two mandatory field placements. A full bursary covering tuition, textbooks, and fees is available for eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents who commit to one year of employment with Nova Scotia’s Disability Support Program after graduation. Scholarships & Bursaries:

    The Nova Scotia Government is offering a couple scholarships for African Nova Scotian students.

1. The  Science Profession Scholarship offers up to $7,000 for eligible Black African Nova Scotian students pursuing full‑time studies in priority programs such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, or Engineering. The scholarship is renewable for up to three consecutive years. Application deadline is July 31, 2026. Click HERE for more information.

2. The  Post‑Secondary Award provides $2,500 to eligible Black African Nova Scotian students enrolled full‑time in an undergraduate university program. Applicants must be graduates of the Nova Scotia school system and demonstrate leadership through community involvement, student activities, or athletics. The award is available to students in any undergraduate year, with renewal based on satisfactory academic standing. Application deadline is July 31, 2026. Click HERE for more information.

3. The  Community College/Trade School Award provides $1,800 to eligible Black African Nova Scotian students enrolled full‑time in an approved community college, private career college, or trade school. Applicants must be graduates of the Nova Scotia school system. The award is available for one year, with a second year of funding possible for two‑year programs based on satisfactory academic standing. Application deadline is July 31, 2026.   The Efficiency Nova Scotia Bright Futures Award is now live. Open to full and part-time students who will be enrolled in year 1 of eligible programs at any campus where the eligible programs are offered. FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS

are providing support to people of African Descent in Nova Scotia with their Provincial Impact Toll Free Line . This includes mental health supports, social supports, education information and supports, public health COVID-19 information and supports, and much more! Call them, toll free @ 1-855-732-1253.

African Nova Scotian and Black youth across Canada deserve mental health and well-being support informed by their rich cultures and diverse lived experiences. RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is a national, 24/7, bilingual E-Mental Health Support Service for Black youth. The service is free and available from coast to coast to coast. Nova Village NS is now offering FREE family (with youth up to the age of 19), couple, perinatal counselling and mental health assessments — available virtually or in person. This service is provided by a registered counselling therapist. In addition, there is a monthly peer support group for new moms and a 6-week mental wellness program.

The North End Community Health Centre offers mental health services through their PAUSE Mental Health program. They are open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays for over the phone appointments, and Wednesday's for in-person appointments at 2131 Gottingen Street.
