PREP is now accepting applications for the Manager of Student Success & Experience, Skilled Trades Strategy, a full‑time leadership role at the heart of a new provincial initiative designed to strengthen apprenticeship pathways and increase participation, persistence, and certification rates for African Nova Scotian youth in the skilled trades.

This opportunity is designated exclusively for African Nova Scotian applicants with historic and familial ties to African Nova Scotian communities, ensuring that youth see themselves reflected in positions of influence, mentorship, and community leadership.

This position offers a salary of $60,000–$70,000, requires travel across Nova Scotia, and is a two‑year term with the possibility of renewal. Applications are due June 11th, 2026.

The North End Community Health Centre is hiring a  Peer Support Worker for a full‑time position at The Overlook. This role is designated for African Nova Scotian and/or African Descent applicants. The Overlook is a harm‑reduction, supported‑housing project offering 24/7 onsite support, including safer‑supply services, a nurse‑led clinic, peer programming, and harm‑reduction counselling..   NEW   The PREP Academy is coordinating two events:

1. PREP Academy is inviting students and their families to the  2026 Annual Program Celebration, an elevated red‑carpet‑style event taking place on June 30th, 2026 at Pier 21. The evening features a formal Awards Ceremony and Reception (3:00–5:30 p.m.), followed by a students‑only after‑party boat cruise (6:00–8:00 p.m.) aboard the Kawartha Spirit. Light refreshments will be provided, and guests are encouraged to wear dressy or business‑casual attire, with students bringing a change of clothes for the cruise.   NEW    The Community Health Team, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Sisterhood, Brotherhood Team, and Black Lives Living Well, is hosting a free Building Better Sleep wellness session on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6:00–8:30 p.m. at the Wallace Lucas Community Centre.     NSCC is offering a one‑year Disability Support Professional Certificate Program  beginning  September 2026. This program trains students to support persons with disabilities through a rights‑based, community‑focused approach, and includes two mandatory field placements. Scholarships & Bursaries:

  NEW   The Union United National Black Youth Award  (UUNBYA) celebrates Black youth across Canada who are leading change in their schools and communities. Open to applicants ages 15–24, this national award recognizes young people demonstrating leadership, community impact, and a commitment to anti‑racism, equity, and human rights. Four awards of $5,000 will be granted, one recipient each year over four years honouring youth who are creating meaningful, future‑focused change. Applications are assessed on leadership, community impact, equity‑focused work, and clarity of storytelling. Applications are *EXTENDED* to June 15th. Click HERE for more information.

    The Nova Scotia Government is offering a couple scholarships for African Nova Scotian students.

1. The  Science Profession Scholarship offers up to $7,000 for eligible Black African Nova Scotian students pursuing full‑time studies in priority programs such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, or Engineering. The scholarship is renewable for up to three consecutive years. Application deadline is July 31, 2026. Click HERE for more information.

2. The  Post‑Secondary Award provides $2,500 to eligible Black African Nova Scotian students enrolled full‑time in an undergraduate university program. Applicants must be graduates of the Nova Scotia school system and demonstrate leadership through community involvement, student activities, or athletics. The award is available to students in any undergraduate year, with renewal based on satisfactory academic standing. Application deadline is July 31, 2026. Click HERE for more information.

3. The  Community College/Trade School Award provides $1,800 to eligible Black African Nova Scotian students enrolled full‑time in an approved community college, private career college, or trade school. Applicants must be graduates of the Nova Scotia school system. The award is available for one year, with a second year of funding possible for two‑year programs based on satisfactory academic standing. Application deadline is July 31, 2026.   The Efficiency Nova Scotia Bright Futures Award is now live. Open to full and part-time students who will be enrolled in year 1 of eligible programs at any campus where the eligible programs are offered. FREE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS

alongside

are providing support to people of African Descent in Nova Scotia with their Provincial Impact Toll Free Line . This includes mental health supports, social supports, education information and supports, public health COVID-19 information and supports, and much more! Call them, toll free @ 1-855-732-1253.

African Nova Scotian and Black youth across Canada deserve mental health and well-being support informed by their rich cultures and diverse lived experiences. RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone is a national, 24/7, bilingual E-Mental Health Support Service for Black youth. The service is free and available from coast to coast to coast. Nova Village NS is now offering FREE family (with youth up to the age of 19), couple, perinatal counselling and mental health assessments — available virtually or in person. This service is provided by a registered counselling therapist. In addition, there is a monthly peer support group for new moms and a 6-week mental wellness program.

The North End Community Health Centre offers mental health services through their PAUSE Mental Health program. They are open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays for over the phone appointments, and Wednesday's for in-person appointments at 2131 Gottingen Street.
